STEAM Education uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics to encourage critical thinking, creativity and other skills – skills important for working and living in the 21st century.
Summer Camp is a great time for students to engage in fun STEAM activities. Most recently, Ms. Bryant and Mrs. Neely’s students were presented with two different engineering challenges.
First, students were given flat index cards and challenged to build towers or other structures. Every design was unique — from cards folded and/or taped into triangles and then stacked, to cards shaped into squares and then assembled with flat cards as “floors” or “ceilings.”
The second challenge was to use drinking straws to recreate specific types of bridges such as truss, suspension, beam — even a draw bridge thanks to bendy straws!
What a great opportunity to challenge young minds, and have fun!
