Ms. Stolze’s 2-4 Team students recently enjoyed a fall-inspired lesson on pumpkins.
They began by considering: What does a pumpkin look like? In what season do we see pumpkins? How do we use pumpkins?
Have you ever carved a pumpkin? What’s inside? Seeds!
Students then learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin, including: seed, sprout, vine, flower, green pumpkin, yellow/orange pumpkin.
To reinforce their new knowledge, students completed a worksheet on the life cycle of a pumpkin which also enabled them to practice sequencing: breaking down an event/activity in simple steps and putting those steps in order.
Later this month, students (and adult chaperones) will enjoy a field trip to a local pumpkin farm. In the meantime, check out the book Pumpkin, Pumpkin by Jeanne Titherington.
