Mysteries have the power to spark interest in reading as well as encourage observation and critical thinking skills.
As part of LGS’s Summer Camp Mystery Week, some of our 4-8 grade students enjoyed mysteries about Detective Jeffrey Bones. Observation skills were tried in analyzing fingerprints and witnessing what staff members were wearing. In another activity, students tested their observation skills by looking at a plate full of ten items and then, when the plate was removed, recalling the items and offering detailed descriptions.
The highlight of the week was participating in a mystery presented by The Murder Mystery Co. in Cincinnati. (Note – the woman in the big red hat looks awfully suspicious . . . . )
