Good Morning Yoga

Mrs. VanBergen’s K-2 students have been practicing yoga to help ease them into the school day and get them focused for learning!

The class utilizes, for example, the book Good Morning YOGA by Mariam Gates. For a reading of the book, click here. The yoga poses presented by the book encourage students to stretch and “wake up” their bodies to get ready to learn. Some poses are done with partners to encourage positive interaction with students from the very beginning of the school day.

Yoga activities in schools are attracting increased attention for their ability to regulate student emotions and increase academic performance. (Read, for example, how Yoga is Good for Schools.)
