Candy Corn Experiment

Mrs. Bachman’s 4-6 Team science students recently conducted a Candy Corn Experiment as part of a lesson on acids and bases.

They talked about five solutions: water, sparkling water, soda, vinegar and oil; and each student developed their own hypothesis regarding what would happen to candy corn dropped into each solution. Would the candy float or sink? Would it change shape or color? What else might happen?

They then dropped the candy into the solutions and recorded their observations at different time intervals.

They noted that vinegar dissolved the candy the fastest, and oil left the candy unchanged.

We look forward to future experiments from these budding scientists!
